MIND: Mentoring, Inspiring and Nurturing Differences
Would you like to meet other students with learning differences?
Would you like to learn how to advocate for yourself in school?
Would you like to be a mentor in our community?
ABOUT MIND: PC READS’ Youth Program.
MIND holds several social and educational events during the school year including our popular Self-Advocacy Workshop each fall. MIND programming is open to all Park City area students in grades K-12 with learning differences who would like to participate. If you are curious whether your student would benefit from attending MIND Programs, please reach out to us.
Most participants are receiving support through one or more of the following:
- A 504 Plan of Accommodations: typically for diagnosed reading, writing, math or attention disabilities
- An IEP: common special education eligibility categories are Specific Learning Disability (usually in reading, math or writing) and Other Health Impairment (for attention)
- Extra assistance from a private tutor
- Tier 2 or Tier 3 intervention in school
Students in grades 8-12 are encouraged to apply to become MIND Mentors (more below!).
Our 2024-2025 MIND Student Chairs are Teagan Grady and Morgan Manning. Read more about them below.
BECOME A MIND MENTOR!
Mind Mentors are students in grades 8-12 who would like to be role models for younger students with learning differences and help run MIND programs throughout the year. MIND Mentors must have strong self-advocacy skills and be comfortable speaking with others about their own learning difference(s). Selected MIND Mentors must participate in an orientation session and complete a MIND Mentor Agreement outlining guidelines and expectations. Volunteer hours for school can be earned.
The application period for the 2024-2025 school year has closed. Selected applicants will be notified by September 10th. Thank you!
